Actress-singer Ciara Sotto drew attention online after expressing pride for her father, Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto III, following a heated Senate session marked by a minority bloc walkout on Tuesday, May 26.

The walkout occurred amid discussions on a proposal from the majority bloc regarding changes in the physical attendance of senators in plenary sessions, triggering debate inside the chamber.

On her Facebook account, Ciara shared a post from the “Conservatives of the Philippines” page that praised her father’s actions during the session. The post highlighted Tito Sotto’s decision to remain in the plenary after the walkout and move for the session to be adjourned or for a quorum call.

The shared post stated:

It further added:

“The Conservative Senator Sotto, the leader of the minority, flexes his experience and mastery of the rules. To be frustration of his haters who belittles him as a mere comedian.”

Another line in the post read:

“The one they call as Comedian Outsmarted their Lawyer Senator.”

The post also detailed Sotto’s long Senate tenure, citing his years of service alongside former senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Miriam Defensor Santiago.

During the session, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano moved to “divide the house” to discuss remote participation rules. However, Sotto countered with a motion to adjourn or conduct a quorum call.

“I move to adjourn or a quorum call… That is a higher precedence,” Sotto said.

Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda noted, “I only see the minority leader representing the minority. The others had left.”

Senator Robinhood Padilla Marcoleta questioned the quorum status after the walkout, but Legarda clarified that quorum was initially present.

“The motion to adjourn is not debatable. Akala ko ba magaling sa rules?” Sotto added during the exchange.

Legarda eventually announced the adjournment of the session, stating it would resume on June 1.

She referred to her father, which quickly circulated online and sparked mixed reactions from netizens, with some defending Tito Sotto’s credentials while others interpreted the remark differently.

She claimed that Sotto was widely known for his strict approach to Senate rules, particularly when it came to decorum and parliamentary procedures. Barcoma also brought up a past Dengvaxia-related hearing, mentioning an instance where Senator Loren Legarda allegedly became emotional after a session was adjourned due to a lack of quorum under Sotto’s leadership.
