The veteran actor-director became emotional while talking about the breakup of popular love team KathNiel. He admitted that he was one of the fans deeply affected by their split.
“Ako apektado ako nung nag-split si KatNiel. Gusto ko si KatNiel eh,” he said.
Bobot even confessed that he avoids watching news linking Kathryn Bernardo to other personalities because he still supports the former tandem.

“Pag nanonood ako ng mga news pag nali-link si Kathryn sa iba parang nililipat ko yung channel. Hindi ko pinanonood,” he shared.
The director explained that love teams hold a different kind of emotional weight, especially for the male partner. According to him, he personally experienced that pain during his own love team days with Vilma Santos.
During the interview, the veteran star confirmed that he and Vilma were once in a real relationship while working together as a love team in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
“Yes. Siya ang first love ko,” he revealed.
When asked how long they were together, Bobot answered, “3 years.”
He clarified that his attachment to their tandem was not only about career success.
“In love lang ako kay Vilma eh. Hindi naman yung wala naman akong pakialam doon sa love team namin eh,” he explained.
The director also recalled how intense fan culture was even before social media existed. According to him, fans of their generation would fight inside studios while supporting their favorite stars.
“Doon nauso yung nagsasabitan kami ng bulaklak hanggang ulo. Nag-aaway yung fans. Nagpapaluan ng silya yung fans sa studio,” he recalled.
Bobot also shared his thoughts on why love teams continue to thrive in Philippine entertainment. He said the format has always been part of local showbiz culture dating back to older generations of stars.
He added that female stars often become bigger celebrities after successful love teams.
“After nung love team, babae yung sumisikat. Ganun talaga,” he said.
Aside from his stories about romance and fandom, the veteran director also looked back on his successful TV career. He discussed directing iconic programs like “Tropang Trumpo,” “Wow Mali,” “Good Evening Please,” “Magandang Tanghali Bayan,” and “Wowowee.”
