Comedy Queen Ai Ai delas Alas recently shared a revelation regarding a time she almost permanently walked away from her career. During an interview on "Toni Talks," the veteran actress confessed that her move to the United States with her then-husband, Gerald Sibayan, was intended to be her final exit from show business.

Delas Alas explained that she was prepared to trade her status for a quiet life abroad, focusing entirely on her domestic role.

“Oo, meron. Kasi ‘di ba pumunta kami ni third husband (Gerald) sa Amerika? So iyon ‘yung time na, ‘Ah! Dito na lang ako, Amerika. Alagaan ko ‘yung asawa ko,'” says the comedienne.

Despite her resolve to quit, a close friend intervened and insisted that she was destined to stay in the industry. This friend argued that she would never truly be satisfied away from the spotlight.

“Napigil lang ako nu’ng friend ko. Sabi niya, ‘Hindi. Hindi mong hindi gugustuhin ang showbiz. Kilala kita, babalik at babalik ka riyan,’” says Ai Ai.

The realization eventually hit home for the actress. She admitted that performing is her true calling and something she intends to pursue for the rest of her life.

“Totoo. Ayoko ng ibang work. Gusto ko artista lang ako for life hanggang (mawala) ako,” says Ai Ai.

However, her decades in the industry have also exposed her to the darker side of fame. Delas Alas spoke candidly about the internal power struggles and envy that can derail a performer's career without warning.

“Siguro ‘yung politika. Parang kunwari, si ganito powerful tapos parang nainggit siya sa ‘yo, tatanggalin ka na, mawawalan ka na ng show,” says the veteran actress.
