The “Unkabogable Star” then revealed that long before the bright lights of the stage and the roar of the "Madlang People," she had a dedicated group of protectors in the heart of Tondo.
The reunion was far more than a simple trip down memory lane; it was a testament to a brotherhood that prioritized protection over judgment.
During the conversation, Vice’s childhood friends, Ivan, Melvin, and Paul, opened up about the unspoken pact they had to look out for their friend.

"Alam mo 'yung istorya n'un, pakiramdam na namin na ganoon siya. Kaya lang, siyempre, alam namin 'yung father niya. Kaya pinipilit namin siyang maging matigas," Melvin shared, recalling the delicate balance they maintained.
At the time, the group understood the expectations of Vice’s father, who took pride in having a tall son who played basketball.
To keep the peace within the household, the friends encouraged a "macho" image, ensuring their friend appeared to fit the mold when the patriarch was around.
Vice fondly recalled how these men served as a primary defense against the harsh realities of the neighborhood.
"So kapag may nagloloko sa akin, sila din 'yung mga shield ko," the comedian remarked, highlighting how the group would intervene whenever others attempted to pick on or tease the young Vice Ganda.
The confirmation of their long-held suspicions eventually came during the college years at FEU, but the group noted that it never changed the dynamic of their friendship.
"Basta importante masaya lang," Paul added, emphasizing that their bond was built on character and shared history rather than labels.
The spirit of this Tondo homecoming also spilled over into a recent episode of It's Showtime, where the neighborhood was featured in the "Laro, Laro, Pick" segment.
The community's joy reached a fever pitch when one of their own, Ate Precy, secured a jackpot prize of PhP 100,000.
For Vice, the reunion serves as a reminder that despite reaching the pinnacle of success, the strongest support often comes from those who knew you before the world did, the friends who were willing to be a "shield" when it mattered most.
A titan of Philippine entertainment, Vice Ganda has reached a historic milestone, entering a "golden phase" following her 50th birthday. The "Unkabogable" host’s versatility was recently cemented with a Best Actor win at the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival for the drama Call Me Mother. Recently, Vice Ganda also revealed that he contemplated exiting the early stages of his noontime show due to exhausting labor and insufficient pay. The entertainer mentioned that her daily earnings were only approximately P5,000 back then regardless of the high-stress environment. In a conversation with entertainment journalists the host also disclosed her childhood ambition of pursuing a career in the legal profession. She chose to remain with the production after the network addressed her concerns by enhancing the workplace atmosphere and raising her compensation.
She also shared her candid anxieties regarding the aging process and the decline of her physical vitality during a live broadcast. She offered a touching reflection on noticing that her cognitive sharpness feels less rapid than it was during her youth. The “Unkabogable Star” voiced her apprehension about age-based prejudice and the shifting attitudes of the audience toward maturing public figures. Even with these personal concerns she clarified that she is not ready to step away from the spotlight at age 50 and intends to keep performing.
