Manny Castañeda, a famous movie and TV director, took the cudgels for the badly-bashed Toni Gonzaga amid heavy criticisms on social media after hosting the Team Unity proclamation rally.

In a post on his Facebook account, Direk Manny slammed those he called ‘Pinklawan’ for being “palaaway” and “bastos.”
“Masyadong agresibo, palaaway, at saksakan ng bastos,” Direk Manny said in his post.
He also said that Toni is only one of the many showbiz personalities who will not vote for VP Leni Robredo.

“Tulad ni Toni Gonzaga, maraming mga artista at mga taga showbiz ang hindi boboto kay Leni Robredo pero tahimik lamang sila,” the famed director said.
According to Direk Manny, he has observed a wave of celebrities shifting their support away from Robredo.
He attributed this to what he claims as the bad attitude of the Pinklawan.
“At kapansin-pansin din na lalong dumarami ang mga artista na umaayaw kay Leni dahil sa mga masamang ugali ng mga Pinklawan,” Direk Manny said.
His post earned varied reactions from netizens, with many approving of his post, some trying to be neutral, while others countering his claims.
Celestine Cruz Gonzaga-Soriano, better known as Toni Gonzaga, is a famous Pinay singer, TV host, actress, producer, YouTube content creator and entrepreneur. She’s the elder sister of another famous actress and TV personality, Alex Gonzaga.
Toni experienced heavy bashing after she played host to the proclamation rally of the Uniteam, which includes some of the politicians who pushed for the shutdown of ABS-CBN. Dawn Chang, a former Pinoy Big Brother housemate, took to social media to express her disappointment over Toni’s public support for the Uniteam. She asked Toni why she is supporting politicians who have been accused before of political misdeeds and who were vocal in their desire to shut down the Kapamilya Network. According to Dawn, she is expressing her criticism of Toni because she believes it is the right thing to do.
Toni has become a hot topic on social media and in showbiz news updates. She was also among the topics in Ogie Diaz’s Showbiz Updates online show. According to Ogie, many understand and recognize the choice and freedom of Toni in choosing BBM as he’s one of her “Ninong” during her wedding. The showbiz reporter, however, pointed out that what earned the ire of many was when Toni introduced Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, one of those who pushed for the non-approval of ABS-CBN’s franchise application. Ogie said that Toni should have gotten a co-host who would introduce Rep. Marcoleta instead of doing it herself.
