Like VM Baste, Mayor Sara did not state the reason why she is withdrawing, though announced she is nominating Baste to run in her stead.

It is not clear if his withdrawal has something to do with rumors about Mayor Sara seeking a national post through substitution method.

For several weeks now, supporters of Mayor Sara have been pushing for her candidacy as either president or vice-president.

At the moment, Mayor Sara is keeping her political cards close to her chest, though supporters say there will be some major political changes in the next few hours.

Vice Mayor Baste Duterte voluntarily undergoes home quarantine and has been listed as a “person under monitoring.” Mayor Sara Duterte said that her brother Baste showed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) symptoms. She added that Baste came from Manila three weeks ago before he manifested the symptoms. Baste has yet to undergo the test because of the limited supplies of COVID-19 test kits.
