Jennylyn Mercado’s sacrifices as a young mother were remembered by Katrina Aguila as she looked back on one of the most difficult periods in the actress’ life.

In an Instagram post, Katrina shared that Jennylyn returned to work shortly after giving birth to her son Jazz because she needed to earn money for her child and her family.
“A lot of you don’t know this, but a month after giving birth, Jennylyn immediately went back to work,” she wrote.
Katrina said the actress was determined to provide a stable future for Jazz despite the challenges she was facing at the time.

According to her, Jennylyn even traveled to the United States in hopes of finding work as a singer in restaurants.
“She was desperate to earn money for Jazz and her family that she even flew to the States to find work as a singer to different restaurants,” Katrina recalled.
Her account also reflects how difficult that period was for Jennylyn as a young mother.
Katrina said she was still a teenager when she witnessed how hard the actress worked to support her family.
“I remember how hard she worked to provide a stable future for Jazz. She was a single mother, you can see that she was having a hard time, but she persevered,” she said.
She added that Jennylyn had already experienced numerous hardships even before becoming a mother, but continued to push through them.
“She is that strong of a person,” Katrina wrote.
Jennylyn herself previously spoke about having to return to work soon after giving birth to her firstborn. In a 2025 interview with The Philippine Star, the actress recalled going back to work around two or three months after giving birth because she was the family’s breadwinner.
Katrina’s post also became personal as she looked back on their long relationship.
She revealed that one of the photos she shared was taken around 15 years ago, when she first took over her mother Becky Aguila’s talent agency.
According to Katrina, Jennylyn was the first artist who trusted her when she began handling the agency.
“Si Jen ang unang artista na nagtiwala sakin. Hindi niya kami iniwan ni @becky_aguila through all our ups and downs,” she wrote.
Katrina also shared that she used to call Jennylyn “Ate” and considered her someone who guided and protected her during her teenage years.
“She guided me throughout my teenage years and became my protector,” she said.
She credited the actress with teaching her important lessons about love, strength, and facing problems.
“That is why she is and will always be my ate,” Katrina added before ending her message with, “Love you Ate Jen, From your Kittykat.”
Today, Katrina heads Aguila Entertainment, the talent agency that continues to manage Jennylyn’s career.
