Vice Ganda and Alden Richards revisited the much-talked-about “rivalry” between “It’s Showtime” and “Eat Bulaga!” during the September 13 pilot episode of the much-anticipated “Gandang Gabi Vice” comeback. At the time, Alden was paired with Maine Mendoza as AlDub on the noontime program.

The two stars looked back at the intense competition between the programs and even recreated some of AlDub’s memorable split-screen moments. While Alden recalled the period fondly, Vice admitted that she would rather forget how intense the ratings battle had become. She said AlDub’s popularity was so overwhelming that she had prepared herself for the possibility that “It’s Showtime” could eventually be canceled.

Alden then asked Vice about reports that members of the “It’s Showtime” staff had allegedly been prohibited from watching the AlDub segment. Vice clarified that while there was no formal memo specifically stating the ban, there had been an email about it.

"Hindi naman aabot sa memo... email 'yon," Meme Vice told Alden.

"Kami-kami na nga lang sa building na 'to, manonood pa kami ng AlDub?" she continued.

Vice also acknowledged the impact of the AlDub phenomenon on “It’s Showtime,” saying the intense competition ultimately pushed the program to become stronger. She described that period as “isa sa pinakamadidilim na stages ng ‘Showtime’ at ako bilang entertainer.”

The host also emphasized that there was never any personal conflict between her and Alden despite their programs being direct competitors. She recalled that Alden remained warm and kind whenever they encountered each other at events, even during the height of the rivalry.

“During those times, we were okay. Magkatapat lang talaga ’yung mga programa namin,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board conducted a formal hearing regarding the controversial July 24 episode of “It’s Showtime.” The case arose from complaints involving the “Memerimar” skit and the “lugaw” segment, with representatives and legal counsels from “It’s Showtime,” ABS-CBN, GMA Network, ZOE Broadcasting Network, and ALLTV present during the proceedings. The MTRCB directed the respondents to file a Joint Position Paper and Joint Undertaking to strengthen adherence to broadcast regulations. The board also instructed the networks involved to designate an On-Air Compliance Officer tasked with helping prevent potential violations during live broadcasts.
