However, Lara admitted that shortly after leaving the venue, an unexpected wave of physical exhaustion and emotional discouragement suddenly overwhelmed her.
She revealed that although she had already been feeling physically unwell since that morning, it was only after getting into the car that everything seemed to catch up with her.
“But the moment I got into the car, everything hit me. I had already been feeling unwell since the morning, but suddenly I felt all the exhaustion at once. Then came this overwhelming feeling of discouragement, and I just burst into tears.”
Initially, Lara believed her emotions were simply the result of fatigue. Wanting someone to talk to, she reached out to a friend and shared what she was experiencing.
Her friend reminded her that discouragement often comes after meaningful victories.
“I messaged a friend and told her how I was feeling and she reminded me, ‘Ganun talaga. The enemy wants to take away the joy.’ She encouraged me to rebuke those thoughts in prayer.”
Reflecting on those words, Lara realized that despite her emotional struggle, the Vacation Bible School had fulfilled its purpose by helping children learn more about God.
“She was right. Our VBS was successful. Children came to know more about God. The enemy couldn’t stop what God was doing, so instead he tried to steal the joy after.”
On their drive home, Lara experienced another moment that she described as deeply comforting.
She shared that as their family noticed a rainbow in the sky, her three sons simultaneously reacted with the same words.
“Then, on our way home, we saw a rainbow. Without saying a word to each other, all three of my boys said in unison, ‘Wow, God!’”
The simple yet meaningful moment moved Lara to tears once again.
“And I had to shout it too, Wow God!!! (I’m crying now while typing this 🥹) Wow, God! Not just because of the rainbow, but because God knew exactly what I needed at that moment.”
Although she admitted that her body still did not immediately recover, Lara said the experience brought peace to her heart, making her feel seen and comforted by God.
“I still didn’t feel better physically, but my heart did. It was as if God was telling me, ‘I see you…’”
Lara also expressed gratitude to her husband Noah, her sons Marco and Tim, as well as the many volunteers, co-teachers, church staff, leaders, parents, and everyone who helped make the week-long program possible.
She described it as a privilege to serve alongside people united by faith and concluded her reflection by giving all the glory to God.
