- She stole a total of P13 million or $260,000 in just a span of one year
- The caregiver managed to do this by memorizing the pin of the elderly's ATM
A Filipina caregiver was sentenced to more than one year after she was caught stealing from the elderly that she was watching over.
KAMI learned that the elderly couple hired the Filipina caregiver, Antonette Dizon, in 2014.
When she has gained the trust of the elderly and was given access to the ATM by sharing the pin with her, it was then that she got to steal money.
According to PTAMA, the pin of the debit card of the husband became her ticket to the $260,000.
She did not steal it in one sitting though but amassed it over a span of one year.
It was discovered by the daughter of the couple, Henry and Helen Abfalter, who had the power of attorney over her parents' accounts. She found out that from a balance of $490,000, what was left was only $200,000.
They then started the surveillance over the said ATM debit card and found out that the withdrawals made were at different ATMs.
Dizon used the money to buy her daughter a car, a piano, to pay off Visa card debt and to flourish her cleaning business.
The wife, Helen, died roughly 9 months after the crime was discovered.
Dizon was sentenced to one year and 18 months in jail and to pay the estate of Helen Abfalter $105,000.
