Explainer: What are the prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices according to law?

- However, there are many prohibited firecrackers in the Philippines according to RA 7183

It is almost New Year’s Eve and people are getting ready with their firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices to welcome 2019 with a bang. However, KAMI learned that there are still many prohibited firecrackers as per Republic Act 7183 or the act of regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.

In a report by Rappler before, President Rodrigo Duterte had signed Memorandum Order 31 last October 29, which allowed the Philippine National Police and other agencies to strictly implement the RA 7183.

PNP had the power to conduct inspection to manufactures, retailers, and users of fireworks and they can also confiscate prohibited firecrackers or revoke license and permits of the manufacturers.

Here are the prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices as posted on Facebook by Philippine Information Agency:

  • Piccolo
  • Super Lolo
  • Atomic Triangle
  • Large Judas Belth
  • Large Bawang
  • Bosa
  • Goodbye Philippines
  • Bin Laden
  • Mother Rocket
  • Lolo Thunder
  • Coke in Can
  • Atomic Bomb
  • Pla-pla
  • Giant Whistle Bomb
  • Kabasi
  • Watusi

According to RA 7183, violators will face 6 months to 1 year of imprisonment, P20,000 to P30,000 fine, confiscation of prohibited firecrackers, and cancellation of permit.

Under the law, the only allowed firecrackers are: Baby rocket, Bawang, Small Triangulo, Pulling of Strings, Paper caps, El Diablo, Judah’s belt, and Sky rocket/Kwitis.

For the pyrotechnic devices, those allowed are: Mabuhay, Roman Candle, Trompillo, Whistle device, Butterfly, Fountain, Jumbo regular, Luces, and Sparklers.
