The Philippines was labeled the third "most ignorant" country based on misperceptions on global issues, according to British news site, Indy100.

The UK report was based on the Ipsos Perils of Perception study released in December 2017.

The study analyzed "how wrong the online public across 38 countries are about key global issues and features of the population in their country."

The "least accurate" country was South Africa, followed by Brazil and the Philippines.

The top 3 "most accurate" countries are Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

In 2016, the Philippines placed 16th, which is in the middle of the scale.

According to a GMA News Online report, more than 500 respondents aged 16 to 64 were interviewed in the Philippines.

The respondents was asked about murder, teenage pregnancy rates, terrorism, and vaccination among other topics.

However, even though the Filipino respondents gave inaccurate answers, they were also among the most confident about their answers.

The same GMA News Online report said the Philippines ranked third among most confident.

GMA said this result reflect the Dunning-Kruger effect in the field of psychology.

It is defined as "the phenomenon by which an incompetent person is too incompetent to understand his own competence."
