VP Leni's pet project in Naga City crumbles in just two months
- Vice President Leni Robredo collaborated with the City Government of Naga for a pet project
- Parts of the Naga City Revetment Project collapsed yesterday, which cover at least 55 meters
- The project was made to revive the Naga River and to be used by devotees of the yearly Peñafrancia procession
The Naga City Revetment Project, which is also known as Vice President Leni Robredo’s pet project with the city government, has collapsed in just a short period of time.
It was in September that she personally attended its inauguration, along with the city’s mayor and vice mayor –John Bongat and Nelson Legacion respectively.
A part of the project, which is located behind the Sto. Niño Memorial Park, crumbled yesterday.

The section that disintegrated was at least 55 meters long, affecting the city’s pathway.
The aim of the project was to bring back the Naga River to its former glory and make it convenient for devotees of the annual Peñafrancia Fiesta to do to their procession.
According to those who live near the area, they noticed that parts of the project eroded concurrently.

One resident shared his observation that the construction workers used a shallow foundation and very thin rip-rap.
There have also been cracks on the opposite side of the collapsed area, which measured around 150 meters long.
He ended his statement that if the project does not get fixed immediately, it will completely collapse once the rainy season returns.

Diego Magpantay of the Citizens Crime Watch is already on the case, sending investigators to check on the deteriorating structure.
Even the city’s mayor has already taken action by alerting his constituents that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is aware of the damage.
He said that the government agency and their contractor should repair it immediately.
It is unfortunate that the project was done in haste just so it could provide instant gratification, but in the end, it was not built to last for a long time. We hope that the project of these children will benefit other people with longevity.
