During their appearance on the Monday, October 26 episode of Chika Cart, the couple was asked by hosts Baninay Bautista, Donita Nose, and Jeff Fernando about how they first crossed paths.

Both Herlene and Kevin agreed that the GMA Afternoon Prime series Binibining Marikit brought them together. They first met during the show's audition process, specifically its final screen test.

“The screen test, the last screen test,” Kevin added.

Despite eventually becoming a couple, neither initially felt a romantic connection when they first met. Kevin explained that his attention was entirely focused on completing the audition rather than getting to know anyone.

“There wasn't a real emotional perception or connection [at first]. It was just I go to the screen test and I leave, that was it,” the actor shared.

Herlene, meanwhile, admitted that her first impression of Kevin was that he seemed arrogant. She recalled how he did not appear to greet the other people on the set during their initial encounter.

“Kasi parang wala man lang siyang binabati na, 'Huy, hello po, kumusta po kayong lahat d'yan,'” the actress jokingly recalled.

Kevin playfully claimed that Herlene was the first one to fall for him. However, the actress clarified that her initial attempt to get his attention was actually the result of a dare from her colleagues.

“It's not fall agad. Dare lang 'yon [nung una]. Parang na-dare ako na, 'Kaya mo bang awrahan si Kevin?'” Herlene explained.

As they spent more time together outside their professional commitments, however, their relationship gradually took a different direction.

Kevin revealed that getting to know Herlene on a more personal level, including meeting her family and observing how she interacted with the people around her, eventually made him develop deeper feelings for her.

“When I fell for you, it's when we hung out together a lot outside of work. I met your family and I saw the ins and outs of all your relationships and how you do things,” he said.

Kevin also confidently clarified who took the first official step toward turning their growing closeness into a romantic relationship.

“I was the one who made the official first move.”

Their story showed how a meeting that initially revolved around a television audition eventually became the beginning of their romance.
