Julia Barretto recently found herself revisiting some of the challenges that came with entering showbiz at a young age, as Matteo Guidicelli re-uploaded excerpts from their conversation on his talk show, “Matteo G. Primetime.”

The actress originally opened up about her early career during an interview with Guidicelli in April. In the conversation, Barretto discussed the pressure she felt when she was still establishing herself in the entertainment industry and how the public’s initial reception motivated her to work harder.
Barretto acknowledged that she experienced a period when people were particularly critical of her.
“Maybe when I was starting, yeah. Because people were a bit more critical and I think unaccepting of me just because baka they feel, ‘What is she doing here?’” she recalled.

Her remarks reflected the uncertainty she encountered as she tried to establish her own identity in an industry where expectations can be particularly high for young actors. Coming from the well-known Barretto family, Julia entered showbiz with considerable public attention surrounding her career.
Rather than allowing the criticism to discourage her, however, Barretto said she eventually learned to use the pressure as motivation.
“I think you just learn with experience and trust in yourself,” she said.
For the actress, the scrutiny became a form of “good pressure” that encouraged her to put more effort into every opportunity that came her way. She explained that the experience became a driving force that motivated her to give her full effort.
“It was good pressure. It was a driving force for me that motivated me so much to give a hundred percent in everything that I did,” Barretto said.
She added that her ultimate goal during those formative years was straightforward: she wanted to establish herself through her own work.
“Ultimately, my dream was really to be able to make a name for myself,” she said.
Barretto also looked back on one of the most difficult experiences of her early career, working on the 2014 fantaserye Mirabella.
The actress remembered being shouted at by someone during the production. At the time, the experience was painful and left her feeling sad, but she now views the incident differently.
“I went through that baptism of fire which, at that time, it really made me sad,” she recalled.
Despite how difficult the situation felt when she was younger, Barretto said she has become grateful for having gone through it because it gave her an early understanding of the realities of working on a television set.
“But looking back, I’m really grateful that I went through it, Matt, because there’s nothing glamorous when we’re actually already on the set. And no one’s actually given special treatment,” she explained.
For Barretto, being placed in an uncomfortable situation early in her career ultimately became part of her professional education.

After taking that time to consider her choices, the actress is now preparing to return to the big screen through two upcoming movies that are expected to be released this year.
