In a statement shared following the incident, DepEd expressed solidarity with the school community and offered assistance to those affected.

“DepEd stands with the Ateneo de Zamboanga community during this difficult time and is ready to extend whatever support and assistance we can to the affected learners, families, school personnel, and concerned authorities,” the agency said.

According to the agency, Psychological First Aid and other forms of psychosocial support are being prepared for learners and members of the school community who may need assistance.

The shooting reportedly happened inside the Ateneo de Zamboanga campus in Barangay Tumaga early Tuesday.

Police Regional Office 9 said two students were identified as victims of the shooting. Authorities immediately responded to the school while investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

An Associated Press report also confirmed that at least two people were hit in the shooting. Regional police spokesperson Maj. Shellamie Chang said police personnel were working to secure the campus as authorities responded to the situation.

Scene of the Crime Operatives and other law enforcement personnel were also deployed as the investigation continued.

At the time of the initial reports, authorities had yet to release complete findings about what led to the shooting. Police were also investigating the person involved and other circumstances surrounding the incident.

DepEd's statement came as the school community dealt with the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Aside from extending assistance, the education agency emphasized the need to support affected learners, families, and school personnel during the difficult situation.

In another report, Stephen Gelo Enriquez, a 38-year-old teacher, died after being shot outside his home in Barangay Poblacion, Sta. Maria, Bulacan. According to a Balitanghali report, the incident happened shortly after midnight on July 30. Police said the victim’s sister was inside their house when she heard a loud gunshot. She immediately went outside to check what had happened and found her brother seriously injured. The teacher was brought to a hospital for medical attention but later passed away.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, triggering a police manhunt and leaving his family grieving. According to a report by GMA News' "Unang Balita," the victim was shot in the head at around 4 p.m. The gunman reportedly escaped immediately after the attack.
