Members of the Philippine Coast Guard, the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, barangay personnel, and the child's relatives searched the river for several hours. Two Coast Guard personnel even entered the water with the boy's father and other family members to search the area up to the Dario Bridge along EDSA.

Despite their efforts, the search team was unable to locate the child. They continued working despite the darkness and the piles of garbage found in some parts of the river.

Rescuers also conducted a surface search along the San Francisco del Monte River near Barangays Masambong and Damayan, which is connected to the Dario River. The boy's parents also went to the area, hoping for any sign of their son.

His mother recalled seeing him shortly after he arrived home from school.

"Pagliko ko diyan sa may kanto namin, nakita ko pa anak ko. Sabi ko, 'Jo, halika na. Uwi na tayo.' Umaambon. Akala ko sumunod."

She later learned from neighbors that her son had fallen into the river.

"Maya-maya may sumigaw na na anak ko nga raw nalaglag sa ilog. Tumakbo na ako."

Barangay officials said part of the river's riprap had been damaged by a typhoon last year. They shared that they had already requested repairs from the local government and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
