Two students from different schools are in critical condition following a shooting incident inside a classroom at Sta. Rosa Integrated School in Nueva Ecija on Thursday, August 7.

According to initial reports, the shooting occurred around 10:00 a.m. when a male student reportedly entered the school premises and went directly to the classroom where a female student was located.

He then shot her using a caliber .22 firearm, News5 reported.

The circumstances leading to the incident are still under investigation, but authorities confirmed that both the male and female students are currently in critical condition.

It is believed that after shooting the female student, the male student may have turned the gun on himself.

The school immediately alerted local police and emergency responders, who rushed to the scene and brought both students to the nearest hospital. Their identities have not yet been released to the public.

Classes were suspended for the rest of the day as students, teachers, and parents were left in shock over the violent incident. Education officials have condemned the act and assured the public that they are cooperating fully with police investigators.

Authorities are now trying to determine how the male student gained access to the firearm and managed to bring it into the school, as well as the motive behind the shooting.

The blast was caused by a dismantled air-conditioning compressor that was being scavenged. One of the victims sustained a severed hand and another suffered a jaw injury, while two others had minor injuries. The Manila Police District's Explosive Ordnance Division and Scene of the Crime Operatives are investigating the incident and have ruled out a bomb as the cause.
