A two-year-old boy in the town of Bettiah, India, reportedly killed a cobra by biting it after the snake coiled around his hands.

The boy, identified only as Govinda, was playing at home when he saw the snake. Curious, he threw a piece of brick at it.

The cobra struck back and wrapped around his hands.

Family members rushed over, but by then Govinda had already bitten the snake, killing it on the spot, his grandmother told local media.

Govinda fainted right after the incident.

He was taken to a primary health center for first aid and then transferred to the Government Medical College Hospital. Doctors said timely treatment saved his life.

They noted that while the venom knocked him unconscious, it was relatively mild and not enough to be fatal.

The cobra died from trauma to the head and mouth caused by the boy’s bite. Govinda is now stable and continues to receive care.

The incident reminded the family of Hindu mythology, where Krishna—who is also called Govinda—subdues the serpent king Kaliya.

India is home to over 300 snake species, including 60 highly venomous ones.

The Indian cobra is among the “big four” that cause most snakebites in the country.
