COMELEC announced the news on Twitter a few hours after Robredo publicized her presidential bid.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, she filed her COC at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City, where the Commission on Elections, had set up a tent for COC filing due to threat of COVID-19.

Robredo is running as an independent candidate but she remains as the chairperson of the once-ruling Liberal Party (LP), as per Rappler.

"She is running as an independent and you can ask her about it tomorrow during her press conference," her spokesperson Barry Gutierrez told reporters as quoted by Rappler.

Maria Leonor Gerona Robredo or more popularly known as Leni Robredo is the current Vice President of the Philippines. She is a Filipina lawyer and social activist. She has three daughters. She is the wife of the late Jesse Robredo.

Liberal Party President Sen. Francis Kiko Pangilinan is Robredo's running mate for Halalan 2022. Pangilinan will run for Vice President in next year's elections. This has been confirmed by three reliable sources in the afternoon of Oct. 7, Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Robredo already announced that she will be running for president in next year's national elections. She made the announcement at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Quezon City Reception House. The decision to finally run came a week after 1Sambayan opposition coalition endorsed Robredo as their presidential bet for next year's elections. Robredo said that it has been a tough process of discernment before she finally revealed her decision.
