Rabiya Mateo’s mother, Christine Mateo, was interviewed on TeleRadyo by Amy Perez about her daughter’s performance at the 69th Miss Universe pageant.
Christine admitted that she paused and was speechless for seconds after she learned that Rabiya was not part of the top 10 at the competition.
However, she quickly composed herself and accepted the defeat, saying that she felt proud that her daughter was included in the top 21.
She also assured Rabiya that all is well despite not winning the pageant because she already gave her best for the country.

"Nabigay na niya ang best niya sa Pilipinas.
"Noong nag-Top 21 siya siyempre sigawan kami, pero nung tawagin na ang Top 10 abot-abot ang dasal namin pero hanggang doon na lang. So parang nag-pause kami for how many seconds. Okay lang. Tinapos din namin ang Miss Universe…
"Siguro a day after nag-message siya sa akin, 'yan lang ang (inabot) ko, wala talaga.' Sabi ko, 'Magpahinga ka muna at saka let's face another chapter of your life.' Ganoon lang. Ayaw ko rin ma-pressure ang anak ko. Lahat naman ng sactifices at effort ay ibinigay niya roon, so that's it.
"Nabanggit ko sa anak ko, 'okay na anak nabigay mo na ang best mo,’” Christine told TeleRadyo.
