Some candidates of the Miss Universe 2020 took advantage of the national costume segment of the pageant to deliver their meaningful messages to the world – the universe rather.
In the said segment of the pageant held in Florida, USA, Miss Singapore 2020 Bernadette Belle Ong wore a shiny red bodysuit with a wide red and white cape.
Ong drew cheers after she revealed the text on her cape which read “Stop Asian Hate”.
According to Rappler, the movement “Stop Asian Hate” began as a response to the increasing attacks towards Asians and Asian Americans, mostly the elderly, in the United States.
“Singapore is a place for all races and they are very proud to be Asian,” the announcer said.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe Myanmar 2020 Thuzar Wint Lwin was not able to present her original national costume due to a shipment problem.
She donned her country’s traditional clothing instead, and opened a sign with message “Pray for Myanmar”.
According to GMA News, mass protests have been taking place across Myanmar since the military seized control earlier this year amid the pandemic. Hundreds of people, including children, have been killed.
