Netizens react on Ateneo’s decision regarding the viral bullying incident of its student

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) has finally aired its verdict regarding the viral student who was caught in a video while bullying his schoolmate.

KAMI learned that it was Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, the university president, who made and released the statement to public about the incident which the netizens described as “unacceptable.”

He expressed that the “bully” student named Joaquin Montes will face the punishment of dismissal which means he will be prohibited from enrolling again at the said institution.

However, the school official revealed that they will provide assistance to the two families in terms of overcoming the difficult time they are into.

“After a thorough investigation that included listening to all parties involved, the decision of the administration is to impose the penalty of DISMISSAL on the student caught bullying another student in the comfort room of the school,” Fr. Villarin quipped.

"This means he is no longer allowed to come back to the Ateneo. I have spoken to the parents of both students about this decision and have offered the families continued support to help them overcome this difficult time,” he added.

Aside from imposing the punishment on the student, the administration also exposed that they are forming a task force to conduct further investigations about the matter.

By doing this, Fr. Villarin emphasized that they can address other matters involved or similar to what happened inside the university premises.

Immediately after the statement was released, a lot of netizens reacted to how the Ateneo administration punishes the viral student.

Some demanded for a heavier consequence for Joaquin while others became contented and happy for the action taken by the university.

Here are the comments:

“This was not done by just one person. It was a group effort. Please check his cohorts. They need to be sanctioned and monitored too. Those bullied may be in bigger danger now.”

“We demand expulsion! Not just some inconsequential dismissal. The bully can still enrol in other schools and continue on his doing. Joaquin Montes must not be admitted to any school in the country ever!!!”

“There is another punishment that needs to be imposed. This kid shall be banned from all taekwondo organizations/gym. This kid never asked for apology, proud pa siya.”

“Great decision. Now please investigate his cohorts as well. Sa mga nainip may process talaga yan tingin ko naman sincere sila sa ginawa nila.”

It can be remembered that Joaquin Montes created a public outrage as he was caught kicking and punching his fellow Ateneo student inside the restroom.
