Gerald Anderson was interviewed by ABS-CBN News about Budoy, his iconic character with special needs.

KAMI learned that Gerald was asked in the interview about the haters who bash him and call him “Budoy” or “abnoy” on social media.
The actor said that he could not understand how people could hate so much and use a character with special needs to try to insult someone.
He added that he will be forever proud of the character since it has become an iconic role that has raised awareness about the lives of people with special needs.

“Para i-bash din ako, ginagamit yung ‘Budoy.’ It’s funny because, really? I mean, siyempre, kahit anong sabihin ko, hindi naman sila titigil. May mga tao talagang parang walang ibang ginagawa kundi mang-bash.
“But, why? Unang-una hindi ako nao-offend. Pangalawa, natutuwa pa nga ako na it’s been so long and naaalala pa rin yang character na yan.
“So yung nang-bash sa akin, isa ka rin doon sa mga nanood. When you hate, it shows your character. And to use yung character ni Budoy, yung isang special child, paano mo nata-type yun? Anong tumatakbo sa utak mo para mag-hate ka and to use a special child to get back at me for whatever reason at ayaw mo sa akin.
“At the end of the day, pag nakikita ko nga iyon, wala yung effect na iniisip nila. It just makes me sad for the other people. Pinagtanggol nga ako ng isang tao kasi may family member siyang special child…
“I don’t know why that’s being used against me. That’s a highlight of my life, of my career. And yung education, nakita ng tao kung paano yung buhay ng may special needs. I will forever be proud, kahit tawagin mo akong Budoy ng paulit-ulit buong buhay ko, it’s something I’ll always be proud of,” Gerald said.
