Atlanta shootings suspect nabbed; 6 out of 8 victims were of Asian descent

- Eight people were shot and killed and one was injured during a series of shootings at spas in Atlanta, Georgia, US

- Six of the dead victims were of Asian descent, raising suspicions that the attacks might have been motivated by racial hate

Eight individuals have been slain while another was injured in a recent series of attacks on spas in the area of Atlanta, Georgia. Six of the victims were of Asian descent which raised suspicions that the crime may have been racially motivated.

Amidst the discrimination and violence against Asians, people fear that this might be another case perpetuated by racial intolerance. People had gathered in the locations where the crimes occurred to offer flowers and their support to the families of the victims.

KAMI learned that a suspect was taken in by the authorities in southern Georgia who claimed responsibility for the shootings. The suspect was identified as Robert Aaron Long, 21, from Woodstock, Georgia.

According to the authorities in a report from CNBC Television, Long claims that the crime was not racially motivated but was due to the suspect's sex addiction.

Captain Jay Baker of Cherokee County sheriff's office spoke about their interview with Long.

"The suspect did take responsibility for the shootings. He said that early on once we began to the interviews with him. He claims that these and as the chief said we do this still early but he does claim that it was not racially motivated. He apparently has an issue what he considers a sex addiction and sees this location as something that allows him to go to these places and it's a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate."

Police will continue their investigation and determine the true motive behind the shootings.

Meanwhile, the suspect who burned the conductor of the bus traveling in Quezon City has been identified. He is the live-in partner of the victim according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
