Michael V. is the latest celebrity to be victimized by a death hoax, but both his wife and GMA-7 debunked the fake news, clarifying that the comedian is still alive.

The Kapuso comedian, more popularly known by his nickname Bitoy, has been the center of attention lately following a death hoax circulating on social media.

According to a report in the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), a meme has made rounds on social media, stating that Michael V. is already dead. The said report seems to come from GMA News. It also contains a photo with the tag “R. I. P. Michael V. Bitoy”. According to the caption, the popular “Bubble Gang” comedy actor passed away due to liver disease.

However, GMA News made clarifications that they were not behind the release and circulation of the said social media post.

The news outlet released a statement on Twitter to deny their involvement in the said death hoax. They said that the persons behind the viral post used the GMA News logo without authorization.

“Links of the post, which may be spreading on social media and messaging apps, make unauthorized use of the logo of GMA News,”

They also asked the public to avoid sharing the malicious post to stop spreading fake news.

"We also ask people to refrain from sharing the post, which we have reported to social media platforms. We urge people to follow our official account @GMANews on social media channels for the latest news and updates,"

Even Carol Bunagan, the wife of Bitoy reacted to this.

"Ano kaya napapala ng mga gumagawa ng ganitong fake news? Kaawaan sana kayo ng Diyos."

Michael V. or Bitoy is a popular Filipino comedian, recording artist, actor, and impersonator. He can be regularly seen in GMA-7 shows, such as “Pepito Manaloto” and “Bubble Gang”.
