A 23-year-old Mexican TikTok influencer, Valeria Marquez, was tragically shot and killed while livestreaming.

It happened from a beauty salon where she worked in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, on May 13, 2025.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves across the country, is being investigated as a femicide, underscoring Mexico's ongoing battle with gender-based violence.

Marquez, a popular beauty and makeup content creator with nearly 200,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram, was gunned down by a man who entered the salon, according to a statement from the Jalisco state prosecutor reported by Reuters.

Valeria Marquez was engaging with her followers on TikTok from the beauty salon where she was employed on May 13, 2025, when the tragic event unfolded.

Seated at a table and holding a stuffed toy, she shared her day with viewers.

She mentioned a stranger who had stopped by earlier with an “expensive gift” for her but left when she wasn’t there.

Worried, she noted she wouldn’t wait for their return.

Suddenly, she said, “they’re coming,” followed by a voice asking, “Hey, Vale?” She replied, “Yes,” and muted the stream.

Within moments, she was shot. The livestream briefly captured someone picking up her phone before it cut off.

News, photos or videos that arouse the interest of netizens would often go viral on social media, due to the attention netizens give them. These viral posts appeal to the emotions of netizens, and in rare cases, such could also happen to ordinary people, making them very relatable.

In a previous report by KAMI, a family of three was mercilessly shot and killed inside their store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. Caught by CCTV, three men entered their store, closed the roll up door, and shot the entire family to death. Before fleeing, one of the suspect even grabbed a bag and mobile phone from the suspects. In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to the report of EJ Gomez in 'Unang Balita,' the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school's faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
