The dog's name is Oreo, a 1-year-old pit bull.

As indicated in a police incident report, the dog "got his paw stuck in the trigger guard and ended up hitting the trigger."

However, the police incident report didn't specify what type of weapon was fired during the incident. They also recorded it as an "accidental injury."

As odd as this incident could be, however, records show this wasn't the first time a dog was involved in a gun-related incident.

In January 2023, a 30-year-old man named Joseph Smith was fatally shot in Kansas when his dog accidentally stepped on a loaded rifle in the backseat of his truck. The gun discharged, hitting Smith in the chest and killing him instantly. The incident sparked discussions on gun safety and the risks of leaving loaded firearms unsecured around pets.
