The world’s oldest person, Maria Branyas Morera, has passed away at the age of 117.

According to the bereaved family's post on X, Morera “has gone the way she wanted: in her sleep, at peace, and without pain.”

Guinness World Records (GWR) also released a statement confirming the heartbreaking news.

“Maria passed away peacefully at the nursing home in Catalonia, Spain, where she resided for the past two decades,” GWR wrote. Morera was born in the US but lived most of her life in Spain.
