Sara Duterte, itutulak ang ‘mandatory’ na pagserbisyo sa military ng 18-anyos pataas sakaling siya’y manalo

- Mayor Sara Duterte said that she will push for a mandatory military service for Filipinos aged 18 years and above, regardless of gender

- She also said that unlike the ROTC which lasts only for a month, her version of a mandatory ‘military service’ will be an actual service in the nation’s military

- Mayor Sara said those under the program will be given a subsidy and will be asked to serve the country through the Armed Forces of the Philippines

- The mayor also said that if she wins, she would redirect the focus of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) towards disaster preparedness and ask them to stop having basketball leagues, beauty pageants, and dance contests during fiestas like what she did in Davao City

Mayor Sara Duterte recently talked about pushing for a measure that would require all male and female Filipinos who are 18 years old and above to render mandatory military service, if she wins this year's elections.

In a CNN Philippines report, Mayor Sara clarified that it will not be like the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) where the program is only on weekends and lasts only for a month.

The mayor said that it will be like in Israel and South Korea where 18-year-old males and females are asked to render service to their country through the armed forces.

Rappler also quoted Mayor Sara as saying that those under the mandatory program will be given a subsidy and will have active roles in the Philippine military.

The Davao City mayor also said, in a PhilStar report, that she will make disaster preparedness the focus of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).

Mayor Sara said that like what she did in Davao City, she will ask the SK to stop having basketball leagues, local beauty pageants, and dance contests during fiestas because it’s just a waste of government money.
