Multi-awarded journalist and documentarist Kara David shared her hopes for the country following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on Monday, July 27.

Kara talked about the SONA during her guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Wednesday, July 29. During the interview, host Boy Abunda asked her about anything related to the President’s address.
Kara said that, like many Filipinos, she hopes to see the country move forward.
“Ang pangarap naman talaga natin lahat ay umusad sana 'yung bansa,” Kara said.

She then expressed hope that the promises and plans presented during the SONA would eventually be fulfilled and would not remain merely statements.
“So, I really hope that lahat ng mga promises na nilalabas sa SONA o sinabi doon sa SONA ay talagang matutupad at hindi lang siya lip service,” she added.
Kara’s remarks reflected her desire to see concrete action following the President’s SONA, particularly for the promises made to translate into actual results for the country.
Kara has been known for tackling social and environmental issues through her work as a journalist and documentarist. Her perspective on the SONA likewise centered on the broader aspiration for the country to move forward and for government commitments to be realized.

Kara David is an acclaimed Filipino broadcast journalist, television host, and professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, widely recognized for her investigative work on GMA Network's "i-Witness." Beyond her award-winning documentary career—which includes a Peabody Award—she is also the founder of Project Malasakit, a non-profit foundation providing education and aid to underprivileged communities featured in her stories.
During the same interview, Kara looked back on her three recognitions at the recent FAMAS Broadcast Arts Awards, among them the Best Host for Public Service award she received alongside Ivana Alawi. The veteran journalist stressed that public service should remain focused on helping others rather than gaining recognition. Her remarks came amid online conversations surrounding calls for journalists and content creators to have separate award categories. Kara also took home awards for her podcast “i-Listen” and her “i-Witness” documentary “Embalsamador de Motor,” while sharing her commitment to continue developing her work.
On "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Kara also weighed in on the relationship between Apple David and Chad Gammad, whose age gap has sparked public interest. She explained that their difference in age was not what concerned her most, saying there were other factors that mattered more to her when it came to their relationship.
