Just a day after announcing that his wife, Dr. Liza Ramoso-Ong, had been diagnosed with breast cancer, Dr. Willie Ong returned to social media with a message of hope, resilience, and health awareness.

Rather than focusing on the hardships brought by their illnesses, the well-known physician said he and his wife have chosen to turn their personal struggles into an opportunity to educate more Filipinos about the importance of early detection and proper medical care.

In his post, Dr. Willie first acknowledged the health challenges that both he and his wife are currently facing.

“Health tips: Huwag magtago sa doctor pag may nararamdaman tulad ng pain o bukol.”

“Mas maaga malaman ang sakit mo, mas malaki tsansa magamot, mas mura ang gamutan at mas mahaba ang buhay mo.”
Finally, he urged the public to educate themselves about their medical conditions and to follow reliable health advice.

Dr. Willie added that one of his greatest sources of encouragement has been the unwavering support of the people who continue to follow and pray for him.

Born on October 24, 1963, Dr. Willie Ong is a cardiologist who also served as a consultant for the Department of Health from 2010 to 2014. He completed his medical degree at the De La Salle University College of Medicine in 1992 before earning a Master of Public Health from the University of the Philippines Manila in 2002. In addition to his medical career and public health advocacy, he also ran for vice president in the 2022 national elections.
