Motorcycle rider, passenger injured after road sign removed in Iloilo

A motorcycle rider and the passenger riding with him were injured after their vehicle crashed into an unfinished section of a road in Passi City, Iloilo, where a road sign had allegedly been removed moments earlier.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV aired on *Balitanghali* on Wednesday, CCTV footage showed a group of men arriving in Barangay Agdahon at around 10 p.m. last Friday.

The footage reportedly captured the men approaching one of the road warning signs placed near the road construction site. After briefly moving the sign, they left the area.

Several minutes later, the same group returned. This time, they were seen knocking down the road signage and throwing it away before leaving the scene.

Shortly after the men left, a motorcycle passed through the area and went straight into the section of the road that was still under construction. The rider lost control, causing the motorcycle to crash.

Both the rider and the passenger suffered injuries in the incident.

The victims have already reported the matter to barangay authorities, prompting local officials to investigate what happened and identify the individuals seen in the surveillance footage.

Barangay officials later confirmed that they were able to locate the group believed to be involved in removing the road sign.

However, despite locating the individuals, officials said the group has not yet met with the victims to discuss the incident.

Authorities have yet to announce whether charges will be filed as the investigation continues. The case has raised concerns over the importance of keeping safety warning signs in place, especially in areas where road construction is ongoing, to help prevent accidents involving unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.

According to a report on GMA News' Balitanghali, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times with an ice pick before taking off with the rider's motorcycle. Authorities said the victim had just dropped off the passenger in Kaunlar Village, Barangay 20, at around 1:30 a.m. when the attack allegedly occurred. The suspect then reportedly fled the scene aboard the stolen motorcycle.
