Three injured after speeding ambulance crashes into SUV at Quezon City intersection

Three people riding an ambulance were injured after the emergency vehicle collided with an SUV at the intersection of Quezon Avenue and D. Tuazon Street in Quezon City early Friday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred at around 2:00 a.m. and left the SUV overturned while the ambulance slammed into the center island. Despite the severity of the collision, the elderly couple inside the SUV escaped without injuries.

CCTV footage aired on *Unang Balita* showed only a few vehicles on the road before the incident. The SUV was seen crossing the intersection from D. Tuazon Street when it was struck by the speeding ambulance traveling westbound along Quezon Avenue.

Another camera angle appeared to show that the traffic signal for the westbound lane had already turned red, but the ambulance continued moving through the intersection without stopping.

The impact heavily damaged both vehicles. The ambulance sustained severe front-end damage, including a shattered windshield, while the SUV suffered extensive damage on the driver's side.

Rescuers treated the 42-year-old ambulance driver and his two companions, who all sustained injuries in the crash.

The ambulance driver said they were on their way back to Cavite after transporting a patient to a hospital in Quezon City.

"Medyo mabilis ang pangyayari kasi, kasi bigla na lang siyang sumulpot. Hindi na rin kinaya ng preno namin. Parang nablangko na rin kasi kami. Hindi namin napansin kung naka-stop ba o naka-go," the ambulance driver said.

Meanwhile, the SUV driver said they were heading to work in Cubao when the collision occurred.

"Hindi siya nakasirena, hindi ko in-expect na dire-diretso siya. Sa tulin niya, tumatakbo siguro siya ng sabihin natin 60 (kph). Binangga niya kami nang hindi namin inaasahan kasi stop siya eh," the SUV driver said.

The Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 1 is continuing its investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The damaged vehicles were cleared from the intersection more than an hour after the crash.

In other news, a 45-year-old woman was killed in Bocaue after she was allegedly attacked by her 33-year-old half-brother following a dispute over fare money. Authorities said the victim sustained multiple fatal injuries and was declared dead before reaching the hospital. Police have arrested the suspect, who is expected to face a murder complaint.

Meanwhile, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Bokod for allegedly killing his 74-year-old mother. The case came to light after a resident discovered human remains partially buried in a shallow grave. Investigators later found bloodstains and other pieces of evidence inside the house where the suspect and the victim had been living. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the motive behind the crime.
