Initial estimates from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) indicated that over 20 houses were damaged, leaving at least 21 families with little to no belongings saved from the incident. The total cost of damage was placed at approximately ₱183,000.
Despite the scale of the fire, no injuries or fatalities were recorded. Firefighters were able to fully extinguish the blaze before 2 a.m., preventing further spread to nearby structures.
Authorities said the layout of the area posed challenges during the firefighting efforts.
“Masikip ‘yung daan papasok doon,” said SFO2 Rheum Saluib, an investigator from the BFP Taytay. He explained that responders had to move directly through the lower portions of the area due to limited access. “Residential area ito ng shanty houses,” he added.
The BFP is continuing its investigation to determine the cause of the fire, as displaced families begin to recover from the sudden loss of their homes and belongings.
