A 13-year-old girl was found dead in a sugarcane field in Barangay West, Candoni, Negros Occidental, a day after she was sent on an errand and failed to return home. The discovery has prompted an ongoing police investigation, with authorities now pursuing a person of interest.

According to a report by Adrian Prietos on GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, residents discovered the victim’s body on April 27, 2027. Initial findings revealed that the girl sustained a wound on her forehead and was found lying in the middle of a sugarcane plantation approximately three kilometers from her home.
Police Captain Leonel Adoracion, chief of the Candoni Municipal Police Station, said the victim was found wearing leggings and her clothing was intact. “The victim was lying in the middle of the sugarcane field when she was found,” he stated.
Investigators believe the suspect may have used a hard object or a bladed weapon, based on the injuries observed on the victim. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and gather further evidence.

The victim’s family told police that she had been sent to buy ice and alcohol from a store in Barangay Haba on the evening of April 26 but never returned. Her disappearance led to concern, which turned into tragedy upon the discovery of her body the following day.
Candoni Mayor Ray Ruiz urged the public to assist in the investigation. “We ask anyone with information to cooperate with the police so justice can be served,” he said.
Police continue to gather evidence as they work to identify and apprehend the suspect behind the killing.
