Quezon City Fourth District Representative Bong Suntay is under scrutiny following complaints over his se*xually suggestive remarks about actress Anne Curtis, ABS-CBN reported.

The complaint was filed by World March of Women (WMW)-Pilipinas, whose members marched to the Office of the Ombudsman carrying a banner that read, “Hold Misogynists Accountable.”

The action coincided with the lead-up to International Women’s Day on March 8. Nine complainants signed the filing, including WMW-Pilipinas National Coordinator Jean Enriquez and Joanna Coronacion of Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO)-Women.

The controversy stems from Suntay’s remarks during the House Committee on Justice deliberations, where he defended Vice President Sara Duterte’s past statement about “imagining” cutting the head of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Suntay said he had experienced “desire” upon seeing Curtis in public, but he could only “imagine” what could happen.

On Thursday, he acknowledged that using a se*xual fantasy “should not” have been done to make a point and added, “There could have been a better analogy.”

He also issued a public apology, "Nag-a-apologize ako sa mga taong nasaktan. That analogy should not have been made. If people would want to judge me, yung pagkatao ko based from one statement and forget everything I’ve done in public service since 1998, then I cannot fault them."

He further stated, "That mistake has been made... May backlash 'yan. I deserve the backlash."

Suntay is concurrently facing a separate ethics complaint in the House of Representatives.

Authorities and advocacy groups are closely monitoring the case, which has reignited discussions on accountability and standards of conduct for public officials in the Philippines.
