The crime, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, began with a twisted gesture of romance. The suspect, a 23-year-old man, arrived at the victim's rented residence carrying flowers and chocolates.
According to his statement to the police, he intended to celebrate what would have been their anniversary. However, the relationship had already ended.
When the victim refused his gifts and firmly told him that she had already moved on with a new boyfriend, the situation escalated into a nightmare.
The suspect, who later surrendered to authorities, attempted to paint a picture of self-defense. He claimed that the woman tried to stab him first, showing a wound on his hand as proof.
He alleged that in the struggle, he managed to wrestle the weapon away from her. However, the violence that followed was excessive and brutal. The suspect admitted to stabbing the woman and, in a fit of rage, striking her head with a hammer.
While the suspect expressed remorse upon his arrest, asking for forgiveness for his actions, a deeper, more heartbreaking motive has emerged from those who knew the couple.
The victim’s landlady provided crucial context that paints the victim not as an aggressor, but as a protective mother.
According to the landlady, the couple’s relationship had been fraught with arguments, primarily centered on the woman’s six-year-old son. The suspect reportedly harbored animosity toward the child.
Faced with an impossible choice between her partner and her son, the woman did what any devoted mother would do: she chose her child and ended the relationship.
Tragically, her decision to prioritize her son’s well-being over a toxic relationship resulted in a fatal confrontation.
The aftermath of the crime leaves a trail of trauma. The six-year-old boy, who witnessed the gruesome death of his mother, is now the focus of social welfare services.
Authorities have stated that the child will undergo urgent psychosocial intervention and debriefing to help process the unimaginable horror he has seen.
Police have recovered the knife and hammer used in the slaying. The suspect is currently in custody and will face murder charges, ensuring that while the flowers and chocolates lie forgotten, the scales of justice will weigh heavily against him.
In other news, a family pet that momentarily escaped its enclosure in Valenzuela City was later recovered by its owners in a severely injured state, having had its tongue savagely cut off. Security footage from a nearby home captured distressful howling and whimpering from the dog late at night, a sound that coincided with a motorcycle's light moving through the area. Veterinarians are managing the dog's ongoing infections and confirming that the tongue is permanently lost, yet the brave animal has already begun the process of learning to eat and drink without it. Owner Rodlee Rivera-Zulueta publicly appealed for assistance from anyone with knowledge about the incident, emphasizing that their gentle, non-aggressive dog was the victim of a heinous crime.
Meanwhile, a seven-day search operation for a 10-year-old girl in Bataraza, Palawan, concluded tragically when her deceased body was located in a creek within Barangay Bulalacao. The victim was last seen alive on November 29 while participating in a customary activity—going to the public market with friends to sell produce. Friends who were with the victim told police that after the suspect dropped them off in the town center, he deliberately took the victim away with him, setting the stage for her disappearance. The primary suspect has been arrested and charged with murder, as authorities await forensic results from an autopsy intended to confirm the exact circumstances of the young girl's death.
