According to the suspect, they were supposed to mark their anniversary the night before. He claimed he brought flowers and chocolates, hoping they could fix their relationship. However, he said the victim threw the gifts away and told him she already had a new partner. The suspect also claimed that she tried to stab him first, showing small cuts on his hand as proof. He told police that he grabbed the weapon during the struggle, and the situation escalated. He apologized afterward, saying he regretted what happened.
Investigators, however, are still determining the full sequence of events. Police recovered the knife and hammer believed to have been used. Authorities noted that the woman’s six-year-old child witnessed the incident, prompting immediate arrangements for psychosocial intervention or debriefing.
The victim’s landlady, Filotea Paquiding, said the woman had broken up with the suspect earlier due to frequent arguments about her child. According to her, the suspect did not like that the woman prioritized her child over their relationship. The tension reportedly led to repeated conflicts until she chose to end things.

Cases like this are not new. Domestic disputes remain one of the most common sources of violence nationwide, with many incidents happening behind closed doors. Advocates have long called for stronger mental health support, faster police intervention in reported disputes, and community-level programs for at-risk families.
While the investigation continues, the priority now includes ensuring the safety and well-being of the young child who witnessed the traumatic incident. Social workers will be assisting the child in the coming days.
