Police said the incident occurred while the victim was crossing a section of the road that was undergoing repairs.

He told officers that he had no idea someone was crossing in front of the vehicle. He explained that he did not see the victim.

Police added that bystanders also failed to alert the operator in time. The lack of coordination in the area is now part of the ongoing inquiry.

Authorities noted that accidents in construction zones remain a recurring concern.

Just last month, a man in Quezon Province was severely injured in another roadwork site after a dump truck lost its brakes.

In Cebu, a separate case involved a motorcycle rider who died when barriers were left unlit and unattended at night.

Safety advocates have repeatedly urged contractors to enforce stricter ground protocols, especially in provincial roads where visibility and communication are limited.

Local officials in Tantangan said they will evaluate whether proper safety measures—such as spotters, warning signs, and barriers—were in place during the time of the incident.

They stressed that preventing similar tragedies requires coordination between workers, motorists, and pedestrians.

The family of the victim is now seeking clarity on how the accident unfolded. Authorities continue to gather statements and review the responsibilities of both the operator and the roadwork contractor involved.

In Davao City, a 74-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his own grandson, leaving the community in shock. Relatives revealed that the 27-year-old suspect had previously exhibited threatening behavior toward the victim and had been admitted to mental health facilities multiple times prior to the incident. The family opted not to press criminal charges, instead planning to have him placed under psychiatric care. Neighbors and residents expressed their disbelief and grief over the tragic loss.

In another heartbreaking case, an 18-year-old student took her own life after unauthorized CCTV footage allegedly showing her taking ice cream without paying went viral among local youths. The victim’s family said the widespread circulation of the video caused intense anxiety, humiliation, and fear for the young woman. Authorities have filed complaints against the store owner and the study room supervisor for potential violations of privacy protection laws. These incidents have sparked broader conversations nationwide about the dangers of digital cruelty. Experts and advocates are calling attention to the ethical responsibility of individuals when sharing sensitive content involving minors, stressing how online actions can have real-world consequences. Both tragedies underscore the urgent need for mental health support and greater awareness of the impact of social media on vulnerable individuals.
