A tragic road accident along the STAR Tollway in Ibaan, Batangas led to the death of a bus driver and left 19 passengers injured after their vehicle collided with a trailer truck on Friday.

The incident occurred in Barangay Sabang, where the truck allegedly lost control and veered directly into the path of an oncoming bus headed for Manila.

According to a report from GMA Regional TV, which also aired in "Balitanghali," investigators discovered that the truck’s tire had suddenly burst while traveling along the tollway.

This mechanical failure is believed to have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

"Nawalan ng kontrol ang truck nang pumutok ang gulong," says an initial police briefing.

Moments later, the truck swerved into the opposite lane, where the bus was traveling.

The impact of the crash caused significant damage to the front sections of both vehicles.

Responders quickly transported the injured bus passengers to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, the bus driver was pronounced dead upon arrival. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family.

Authorities have taken the truck driver into custody for questioning. As of this writing, he has not issued any statement regarding the collision.

Police noted that determining the sequence of events and the driver’s possible liability will depend on the results of the investigation.

The bus company involved in the incident has also not provided an official comment.

Police are urging transportation firms to review their vehicle maintenance protocols, emphasizing the risks posed by tire blowouts and mechanical failures on major highways.
