A tricycle driver died after his vehicle hit a post and fell into an irrigation canal in Cabanatuan City.

Authorities said the crash happened in Barangay Bakod Bayan while the 48-year-old driver was bringing his wife, two children, and several neighbors to a health center for a checkup.

He suddenly lost control of the tricycle, causing it to slam into a post and send all passengers into the nearby irrigation canal.

Residents managed to rescue everyone except the driver. Investigators suspect he may have suffered an epileptic attack, which caused him to lose control of the handlebars.

He was already dead when he was found in the water.

The driver’s family and police have yet to release an official statement about the incident.
