A newcomer to Manila, Nicka Jean had braved the big city to help support her family back in Zamboanga del Norte.

"Sobrang lakas po ng hangin kaya natumba yung payong, nataob yung kariton ko."

According to her co-vendor Roldan Siervo, they didn’t immediately pack up because the weather initially seemed calm, only for a sudden storm to strike.

"Inakala naming saglit lang ang ulan," he said.

Though her employer didn’t charge her for the damaged goods, Nicka Jean earned nothing that day.

Her income relies solely on the quantity of peanuts she sells—and she hadn’t sold any before the incident.

The uploader of the video kindly helped gather her belongings. Despite the loss, Nicka Jean remains hopeful.

She shared her difficult choice to work instead of continue her studies, saying, "Sobrang hirap ng buhay naman e... gusto ko tumulong na lang."

Selling peanuts may be her current path, but her spirit remains unshaken. With quiet determination, she believes she can weather any storm, as long as she keeps striving.
