Atty. Nicholas Kaufman, the Lead Defense Counsel of FPRRD, claimed that former president Rodrigo Duterte is being illegally detained.
Duterte is currently being held at the detention facility of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands.

"Why should he not go back? I mean, as far as I'm concerned, he's being illegally detained here, and he should go back to the Philippines as soon as possible," said Atty. Kaufman.
It can be recalled that Atty. Kaufman was recently officially assigned as FPRRD's Lead Defense Counsel.
Meanwhile, Atty. Salvador Medialdea and Atty. Harry Roque will no longer be part of the former president's defense team.
Additionally, Vice President Sara Duterte said they will do all legal means possible to bring FPRRD home before or after the May 2025 Mid-Term elections in the Philippines since FPRRD is running for Mayor in Davao City where his son, Baste Duterte is the current Mayor.

The new Vice President of the Philippines is VP Sara Duterte, the daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Nicholas Kaufman has a background as a former ICC prosecutor and has represented high-profile clients in international legal matters. His legal team, which includes former Philippine officials, aims to challenge the ICC's jurisdiction over Duterte's case.
In a previous report by KAMI, the International Criminal Court has officially assigned British-Israeli lawyer, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman as Lead Defense counsel of FPRRD. It can be recalled that FPRRD's camp chose Kaufman as the head of their legal counsel. However, in recent news, Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed that Atty. Salvador Medialdea and Atty. Harry Roque will no longer be part of FPRRD's legal counsel, according to Vice President Sara Duterte. It's also worth pointing out that Atty. Kaufman has already talked to the former president and promised to visit him every day as long as he's allowed.
Additionally, British-Israeli lawyer, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman has finally spoken to former president, Rodrigo Duterte. In a report by GMA 7's 'Balitanghali,' he reportedly spoke with FPRRD for two hours. Apart from this, Kaufman also told the press people that Duterte would be acquitted. He also said that he promised to visit the Philippines's former president every day as long as he's in The Hague and as long as he's allowed to.
