An SUV caught fire after crashing into the railings of the Skyway in Taguig City.

The driver of the sports utility vehicle lost his life in the tragic incident.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames by 3:00 AM, which was also when the body of the deceased driver was recovered from the wreckage.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group is still investigating the incident and working to confirm the identity of the deceased SUV driver.

Additionally, the burnt vehicle's front part was completely damaged from the incident. It was also removed from the Skyway to control the traffic flow where the incident happened.

The management of the Skyway has yet to release their statement about the incident.

The Metro Manila Skyway has been the site of several major accidents, including the 2013 Don Mariano Transit bus crash that killed 19 people after the vehicle fell off the elevated roadway due to overspeeding and worn-out tires.

In 2020, a steel girder from the Skyway extension project collapsed in Muntinlupa City, killing one person and injuring four others.

More recently, in 2024, a motorcycle rider counterflowing on Skyway Stage 3 in Quezon City collided head-on with an SUV, resulting in the rider's death and the SUV driver being cleared of liability.
