Despite this, Barangay Chairman Edwin Lacaste insists on keeping the tree, explaining that it provides shade for residents drying their rice harvests in the area.

He also noted that the land where the tree stands was previously not part of the road before a concrete slope protection was constructed.

In a report by CJ Torida of GMA 7's 'One North Central Luzon,' the area was cemented using surplus funds to serve as a drying pavement for farmers.

"'Yung puno ng mangga, 'wag niyo nang putulin 'yan. Kasi, para pag may magbibilad ng palay, may masisilungan sila," said Chairman Lacaste.

However, if the barangay council decides to cut the mango tree, they must coordinate with DENR and submit the necessary requirements to get a tree-cutting permit.
