Streetsweeper dies after being stabbed by a senior citizen whom she owes ₱400

A 43-year-old street sweeper named Catherine Madrid was stabbed and killed in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

CCTV footage showed her sweeping the streets when a 76-year-old man approached.

After a brief conversation, the man suddenly stabbed her. She was taken to the hospital but declared dead on arrival.

The suspect, a former tenant of Catherine, was stopped by two bystanders and turned over to the police. Police Captain Ronnie Ereño said the issue was over a small debt.

“Lumalabas na itong biktima ay mayroong pagkakautang dito sa suspek na dating nangungupahan sa kanyang bahay. Kasalukuyan mayroon siyang dinidinig na kaso dito sa Barangay Batasan,” he explained.

Catherine’s partner, Jonathan Cajuto, was devastated that her life ended over just P400.

“Yung pinagtalunan po talaga ng asawa ko P400 lang po yon sa tubig po 'yon,” he shared.

The suspect admitted to the crime, saying, “Nanaksak ako kasi may utang sa akin... Siningil ko nagalit pa.”

He is now in police custody and faces a murder charge.
