According to a report by ABS-CBN, the mother, Maria Cecilia Cadiz, is a vegetable vendor. The age of her son was not mentioned in the report.
The report also stated that the Cadizes consider their diplomas a milestone in their lives.

For her part, Maria Cecilia said that her graduating from high school is proof of “God’s right and perfect timing.”
She said that the Almighty always sets a right time for His people to achieve their goals in life.
Maria Cecilia also said that everyone’s goals can be achieved for as long as there is will to achieve them.
A report by PEP.ph revealed that the 58-year-old vegetable vendor started working while she was very young to help in her family’s needs.

She said that she would gather small oysters and sell it for 70 centavos.
Several decades later, she went back to school through DepEd’s Alternative Learning System or ALS.

Now that she’s graduated from high school, Maria Cecilia is thinking about going to college and is in the process of looking for ways to achieve that.
