The Kapuso Primetime Action Hero shared the experience during an interview with 24 Oras, recalling how the incident happened while he was dining alone during his workation in Spain.
Ruru had traveled to Madrid for the filming of his historical movie, Los Salvajes Bravos, an entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival. Although he considered the work trip fulfilling, the unpleasant encounter at the restaurant became one of the experiences that stayed with him.
The actor explained that he had ordered steak and fries when the waiter serving him allegedly handled his food disrespectfully.

The incident left Ruru wondering whether he should simply ignore the treatment or speak up about what happened.
Instead of remaining silent, he decided to bring the matter to the restaurant manager. Since communicating in Spanish could be a challenge, he used Google Translate on his phone to explain his complaint and make his concerns understood.
Ruru also recalled approaching the person who served him to make it clear that such behavior was unacceptable.
"Lumapit sa akin yung nagbigay and then sinabi ko talaga sa kaniya na hindi tama na tratuhin tayo ng ganito.”
Beyond his personal encounter, the 28-year-old actor connected the experience to the broader issue of discrimination against Filipinos.
He pointed out that the struggles experienced by Filipinos brought to Madrid, Spain, during the 1800s, as portrayed in Los Salvajes Bravos, remain relevant today.
Through his experience, Ruru highlighted how discrimination and unequal treatment remain issues that Filipinos continue to encounter, even centuries after the historical events depicted in his film.
