During an interview with veteran journalist Kara David, the Kapamilya actress discussed her perspective on justice, drawing from her deeply personal experience of losing her mother, Zenaida Sison, who was murdered in their home 12 years ago.
Despite the painful tragedy that affected her family, Cherry Pie maintained that executing criminals would not necessarily address the deeper problems surrounding crime in society.

“Yung death penalty, I’m still against it kasi hindi siya talaga sagot.

The actress also explained that forgiveness should not be confused with removing accountability. Although she has already forgiven the individual responsible for her mother's death, she believes that he must still face the consequences of what he did.
Marami din nagtatanong, so ano? Pinatawad mo na? Oo, pero andoon pa rin siya, pinagbabayaran niya pa rin yung kasalanan niya,” she said.
Cherry Pie further discussed how giving someone another opportunity to rebuild their life does not erase the wrongdoing they committed.
According to her, the person who killed her mother has been making productive use of his time in prison. She shared that he has found a way to support his family members outside the correctional facility through his work while serving his sentence.
The Philippines previously implemented the death penalty, but its imposition was prohibited through Republic Act No. 9346.
Beyond her views on criminal justice, Cherry Pie also reflected on the role of faith in helping her and her family navigate the painful experience.
When asked about her understanding of radical love, she emphasized how God's unconditional love allows people to receive opportunities to correct their mistakes despite repeatedly falling short.
Through her personal experience, the actress continues to advocate for a form of justice that recognizes accountability while also allowing individuals the opportunity to regain their dignity and become better members of society.
